Long term assignments included one month teaching biology and six weeks for chemistry.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE, Florida
Since October of 1998, I have been substitute teaching in Palm Beach County public schools. The some of the high schools I have subbed the most at include Santaluces (contact Assistant Principal Jim Krupa, ESOL Coordinatior Glenda Addington; or teachers Mrs. Case-Sweeny, Ms. Rubow, Mrs. Egner or Mrs. Richman), Lake Worth High (contact Mrs. J. EDUCATION
University of California, Irvine - graduated June 1977 with a BS in Biological Sciences. This university has been rated in the top 50.
Palm Beach Community College - Currently, I am taking courses in education to become fully certified. I will have completed all the course I need to become certified by June, 2001.

EDUCATION, Workshops
"8 Kinds of Smart" (using Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences Theories in the classroom) led by Dr. Thomas Armstrong, Ph.D., and sponsored by the Palm Beach Literacy Coalition, October 23, 1999. I am still researching this as a framework for instruction and creating lesson plans.

CLUBS AND ASSOCIATIONS
I am a member of the National Association of Biology Teachers and the National Science Teachers Association. Both these organizatons publish a magazine with lessons and other useful information for teachers. I am also a member of the Audubon Society.

STRENGTHS
My life experiences have taught me to be resourceful, self-reliant, and flexible, as well as exposing me to several different cultures and countries. By my twenty-second birthday, I had lived in four states in the U.S. and in three other countries.

I also know the value of being a team player. As a sub, I have worked successfully with many different personalities and situations.

I am a quick learner; I have taught myself how to use the Internet and to program in HTML to create my own web site:  TeachOne.tripod.com. This site has links to other web sites I found during my researches into several different areas that interest me or for web sites to use in the classroom. I also have a PowerPoint Presentation, on the structure of DNA, which is also available on the net. Go to http://y42.briefcase.yahoo.com/mr_coleman_teacher and click on the folder marked "Public".

OTHER PREPARATIONS for Teaching:
I am also preparing for teaching by collecting lessons and activities from various sources. For instance, I have a growing collecting of articles photocopied from back issues of periodicals like The American Biology Teacher and The Science Teacher. I look for activities suitable for both the kinds of students and the under-equiped classrooms I have encountered subbing in this district.

SPECIAL INTERESTS of mine include:
Natural history and the environment, ecology and evolution, critical thinking and scientific method, brain based learning, multiple intelligences, the Love and Logic discipline philosophy, using Power Point and other multimedia in teaching, math in nature, science fiction and science in general.
